Five career and internship fairs set for spring semester

Miami University will host five career and internship fairs during spring 2024, headlined by the All-Majors Career and Internship Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 1-5 p.m. in Millett Hall.

Four boutique fairs will follow the all-majors fair, which is sponsored KeyBank. During fall 2023, 4,736 students attended at least one career fair, representing a 12% increase from fall 2022. The 325 employers who participated across the three events is more than double Miami’s peers’ average of 150 employers.

“Employers are eager to hire Miami University students,” said Jennifer Benz, vice president of the Center for Career Exploration and Success. “We are excited to have over 300 employers visit campus this spring to connect with our talented students. No matter if you are a first year looking for your first internship, or a senior looking for your first full-time position, our career fairs are designed with you in mind.”

Scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 1-5 p.m. in Millett Hall, the Careers for the Common Good Fair is designed for students interested in social service, advocacy, public service, and social justice. The in-person Architecture + Design Career and Internship Fair will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 1-5 p.m. in the Shriver Center JDOL Rooms. The virtual rendition of the A+D fair takes place the day before on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 3-5 p.m. through Handshake, Miami’s job and internship database.

The Teacher Job Fair rounds out this spring’s offerings on Friday, March 1, in Millett Hall. K-12 teaching seniors and recent graduates can interview for open positions from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

At Feb. 20’s Spring Career and Internship Fair, employers representing every career cluster will hire for full-time and internship positions. A sample of the employers confirmed to appear include the City of Cincinnati, Cumulus Media, Defense Finance and Accounting Service, DHL Supply Chain, Epic, FHLB Cincinnati, Honda, Johnson & Johnson, KPMG, Kohl’s, Kroger, MarketVision Research, Medpace, Nationwide, ND Paper, P&G, Packaging Corporation of America, Sherwin-Williams, Sofidel America, Stanley Black & Decker, Talbert House, Q Laboratories and Clear Packaging, and the United States Secret Service.

Students will have the opportunity to speak with employer representatives, gain insight into career opportunities, and distribute copies of their resumes. Employers use career fairs to identify candidates to invite for interviews.

“One of the best ways to get the most out of a career fair is to research employers and their available positions on Handshake,” Benz said. “Don’t just review the major or degrees they consider. Research the skills needed to perform the job. Most employers hire candidates from a wide range of majors. I encourage students to consider their interests and skills.”
