The Miami University Board of Trustees approved two new master’s degree programs in Engineering during its regular meeting on Friday, Dec. 15.

Master of Engineering (MEng) degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Engineering within the College of Engineering and Computing will soon be available to applicants. The MEng degree programs include a culminating experience, an internship, an industrial practicum, or a non-thesis project. All students in this program will be fee-paying and ineligible for graduate assistantships.

Miami University Provost Elizabeth Mullenix said the in-person programs will be attractive to nontraditional and international students because of its competency-based approach and no-thesis options.

Miami currently offers a Master of Science in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, which includes courses from both disciplines and requires a research thesis in either Chemical Engineering or Biochemical Engineering.

The new programs are designed for applicants who seek advanced training and coursework that can be completed quickly and at their own pace — graduating with the versatile skills and proactive mindset to meet the needs of a demanding, dynamic workforce.

The meeting culminated with Miami’s Fall Commencement on Friday afternoon in Millett Hall on Miami’s Oxford campus.
