Explore World Religions
Comparative Religion specializes in understanding religion as a dimension of culture. You’ll study how people’s religious beliefs, values, or practices intersect with other areas of human life, including law and politics; ethnic and national identities; gender, sexuality, and family; health, consumption, and finances; and life transitions and death.
Curriculum and Courses
We regularly offer courses that apply the study of religion to matters of public policy, law, and the diversity of human cultures. These include courses that will encourage you to rethink the concept of religion, courses engaging the pluralities within specific traditions (e.g. Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism), and courses engaging intersections of religion with public life (e.g., Religion and Law, Marriage across Cultures, courses on contemporary militant movements, courses on Islamic finance, and courses on religious pluralism in the United States). We even offer a study abroad opportunity in the Sultanate of Oman and the UAE. Our courses prepare students with essential skills in religious literacy and an empathetic perspective required for success in any diverse workplace and future career.
