"The Langston Hughes Project presents "Ask Your Mama," a multimedia concert

The Langston Hughes Project: "Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz" will be presented by jazz musician Ronald McCurdy and his quartet at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in Hall Auditorium. The Langston Hughes Project is a multimedia concert performance of Langston Hughes' jazz poem suite. The concert is part of Miami University's Black History Celebration.

Robert McChesney lecture, symposium on "Media and Democracy"

Robert McChesney, host of "Media Matters" weekly radio program and co-founder of Free Press, a national media reform organization, will present "Media and Democracy and the Coming Upheaval" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Shriver Center Heritage Room. His talk is part of Miami University's annual Robert E. Strippel Memorial Continuing Dialogue on Justice and Human Rights.

Miami University's Scripps Center releases factbook

Recognizing that growing numbers of Ohioans are seeking information about long-term services and supports, Miami University's Scripps Gerontology Center has released its third edition of the Ohio Long-Term Services and Supports Factbook. The book provides a basic introduction to long-term services and supports, which include any assistance given to people with limitations impacting their abilities to perform daily activities.

Goldman Prize winner Brad Kasberg to work with Miami Tribe of Oklahoma

Miami University senior Brad Kasberg, recipient of the $30,000 Joanna Jackson Goldman Memorial Prize, will spend a year after graduation working with the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma to develop a sustainable land use plan that will address the cultural, ecological, and economic needs of the tribe.

Study investigates aging criminals and Ohio's nursing homes

More than a quarter of nursing homes surveyed in Ohio are "unsure" whether a previously convicted sex offender, or someone with a violent criminal background, resided within their facility, according to a report published by Miami University's Scripps Gerontology Center. Of the facilities surveyed, 7 percent indicate they had housed at least one resident with a sex offender or violent criminal background.
