Chiquita Brands head to speak

Fernando Aguirre, chair, president and CEO of Chiquita Brands International, will speak at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in 100 Laws Hall. The topic of his lecture, part of the Richard T. Farmer School of Business' Executive Speaker Series, is “Leadership requires BAHG: Brain, attitude, heart, and guts.”

Chiquita has been in the news in recent years with its success at achieving certification of 100 percent of its Latin American banana farms to international labor and human rights standards.

Aguirre was named to his current post in January 2004. Previously, he had accumulated 23 years of experience at Procter & Gamble, where he headed two global business units and served in several countries. As president of P&G Brazil from 1992 to 1996, he turned an unprofitable business into the corporation's second-largest and second-most-profitable subsidiary in Latin America.
