Mark D. Havey, professor of physics at Old Dominion University, will give a public lecture on “Order, Disorder and Discovery” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in 115 Shideler Hall. Havey is the George and Carolyn Arfken Physics Scholar-in-Residence at Miami. He conducts research in ultracold atomic physics and the influence of disorder on light propagation in ultracold gases. Disorder can significantly alter the transport properties of the medium. Havey will also present a physics seminar on “Mesoscopic Electromagnetic Dynamics in Atomic Gases” at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in 46 Culler Hall. His talks are free and open to the public. |
