Miami art responds to Katrina: MARK project collecting household goods |
|
|
The “make a MARK project” (Miami Art Responds to Katrina), which began in mid-September, has donated more than $1,000 to the Red Cross for Katrina relief. MARK is now collecting household items, such as toiletries, for a Baton Rouge church that is housing several hundred evacuees. The collection will continue through Saturday. MARK is also working to support displaced art students. Art supplies were donated to an evacuee, and a list of what students and faculty are willing to do to help is being compiled. In its final phase, MARK plans to host an art show, planned for November, to demonstrate support for Katrina victims. A project of Miami's art department in conjunction with the student chapter of the National Art Education Association, MARK was created through the leadership of Jean Langan, Sara Butler, dele jegede, Tom Effler, Ellen Adams and Peg Faimon (all art).
