Reynolds to speak on transversal performance
Bryan Reynolds, from the University of California, Irvine, will present a lecture titled “Transversal Performance: Theaterspace, Emulative Authority and the Force of Subjunctivity” at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, in 40 Irvin Hall as part of the L.P. Irvin Lecture Series in the department of French and Italian.
Reynolds is the author of Performing Transversally: Reimagining Shakespeare and the Critical Future and Becoming Criminal: Transversal Performance and Cultural Dissidence in Early Modern England.
Reynolds is also a playwright and cofounder of the Transversal Theater Company. Recently, he has been invited by the University of Alabama's Hudson Strode Renaissance Program to participate in a symposium as one of “the six most brilliant Renaissance scholars in the world under the age of 40.”
The lecture, which explores the power of performance for both performer and spectator, will be followed by a discussion.
