Visit to mark collaboration with Mexican university, UAT

Jesus Lavin Santos del Prado, president of the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT), Mexico, and other UAT officials are visiting Miami Oct. 20-21 as part of a collaboration between Miami and the UAT in programs and departments common to both universities. They will meet with several departments across campus. The group was invited by Alfredo Huerta (botany), who is founding an international institute at the UAT.

Huerta and Mark Boardman, director of Miami's Institute of Environmental Sciences, will speak at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, in 218 Pearson Hall on “Miami University and the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas in Mexico: New collaborations and the new International Institute of Applied Environmental Science.”

An open reception with the UAT guests will be held in the Great Room of MacMillan Hall 6-9 p.m. Oct. 21, featuring a wind quintet and a string quartet from Miami's music department.
