Marjorie Cowan has been promoted to professor of microbiology.
Her publications include two textbooks, three book chapters and more than two dozen research articles stemming from her work on bacterial adhesion mechanisms and novel antimicrobial compounds. She has given presentations on her research, which is externally funded and the subject of two patents, all over North America and in Western and Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
An avid teacher and pedagogical researcher, Cowan has published articles in the Journal of College Science Teaching and The Teaching Professor, among others. In 1997 she won a Celebration of Teaching Award sponsored by the Greater Cincinnati Consortium of Colleges and Universities.
She is a member of the undergraduate education committee of the American Society for Microbiology and editor of its national education newsmagazine.
She has been a faculty member on the Middletown campus since 1993 and associate executive director for academic affairs since 2003.
