Hampton Awards support faculty international projects |

Ten Miami faculty have been awarded grants from the Philip and Elaina Hampton Fund for Faculty International Initiatives for projects to be completed by June 2006. The recipients are: Sheldon Anderson, history/international studies, $3,400, “Multiple Perspectives on Peace and Conflict in Northern Ireland”; Jane Butler Kahle, teacher education, $5,000, “Research on Science Teaching and Learning: A Multicultural Study”; Mark A. Peterson, anthropology/international studies, $3,000, “Entrepreneurs and Globalization in Cairo”; Emma Rubinstein, Harvey Thurmer, Mary Harris and Pansy Chang, music, $9,000, “Oxford String Quartet: Integrating Contemporary Asian Music and Traditional Classical Compositions”; James J. Sheehan, teacher education, $3,000, “Creating a New Social Order: American Colonial Policy in the Philippines 1896-1941”; Rita K. Voltmer, teacher education, $1,500, “Santorini, Greece: A Geologic Study.” Hampton reading committee members for the fall 2004 competition were Gerardo Brown-Manrique (architecture and interior design); William Green (interdisciplinary studies); Michael Vanni (zoology); Nick Noble (economics); Roscoe Ward (paper science); Aimin Wang (educational psychology); Abdoulaye Saine (political science); and David Keitges (international education), chair. |
