Serpent Mound disturbance topic of geology lecture

The history of one of Ohio's most famous geologic features will be the topic of a talk by Greg Schumacher of the Ohio Geologic Survey at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, in 115 Shideler Hall.

“The Impact of Ohio's Extraterrestrial Visitor - Geology of the Serpent Mound Disturbance” is the final Limper Lecture for the year.

More than 250 million years ago, a huge fireball pierced the atmosphere at supersonic speeds and smashed into the vast coal-producing swamps of prehistoric southern Ohio. In milliseconds, the Serpent Mound Disturbance was born as the exploding fireball released catastrophic forces.

The 45-minute presentation is intended for a general audience. The lecture is free and open to the public.
