MacKenzie awarded for equity work |

Ann Haley MacKenzie (teacher education) has received the Award for Excellence in Encouraging Equity by the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT). The award recognizes efforts to encourage, promote and strive for equity in the educational community. MacKenzie has been involved with equity issues at the national level for 20 years with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, NABT, American Physiological Society and Girls Inc. She has served as the external evaluator on numerous equity projects funded by the National Science Foundation and other funding agencies. She was one of the founders of NABT's section on the Role and Status of Women in Biology Education and has developed curriculum materials geared towards introducing students to the lives and contributions of women scientists from past to present. MacKenzie was just named editor of the NABT's “The American Biology Teacher.” The award is sponsored by Science Kit and Boreal Laboratories and will be awarded at the national convention of NABT in Chicago, Ill., Nov. 10-14. MacKenzie taught high school biology, general science and anatomy/physiology in St. Louis, Mo., and Kings Mills, Ohio, and is a former Ohio Teacher of the Year. |
