Luis A. Actis

Luis A. Actis has been promoted to professor of microbiology.

A faculty member since 1994, he received bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from the National University of Córdoba, Argentina.

Actis’ research program, which has been supported at Miami by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the American Lung Association, focuses on the characterization of the molecular mechanisms by which bacteria acquire essential nutrients and cause diseases in humans. For these purposes, he has used molecular genetics and molecular biology and more recently genomics and bioinformatics.

His research, involving undergraduate and graduate students, has been reported in more than 40 international, peer-review journals and presented at numerous national and international meetings.
