Miami’s department of theatre will present "Birds," the fifth annual John D. Yeck Mainstage Production, with opening night at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20. Dayton resident John D. Yeck (Miami ’34) was an avid actor and is a strong supporter of the arts. Additional performances are at 8 p.m. Nov. 21, 22 and Dec. 3, 4, 5 and 6, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 23. All performances are in Gates-Abegglen Theatre, Center for Performing Arts, and directed by Miami theatre chair Bill Doan. "Birds" depicts a carnival atmosphere that demonstrates the enduring popularity of Aristophanes as a comedic playwright. It was originally performed in 414 B.C. at the City of Dionysia Festival. The action centers on two Athenians who escape city life for a utopian society made up entirely of birds. An opening night reception is planned Nov. 20 to salute Yeck. Tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for senior citizens and students. Tickets are available at the box office in the Shriver Center, by phone at 9-3200 or online, www.tickets.muohio.edu. |
