‘Two’ characters struggle with darker side of human nature

"Two," a department of theatre production, will be performed at 8 p.m. Oct. 29-31 and Nov. 1, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 1-2 in Studio 88, CPA.

Written by Australian playwright Ron Elisha, "Two" is set in 1948 Germany. It focuses on the relationship between Chaim Levi, a rabbi turned atheist after his experiences in Auschwitz, and Anna, a woman who asks him to teach her Hebrew so that she can settle in Palestine.

"Two"is a journey through the Hebrew language, as the characters struggle to come to terms with the darker side of human nature and a God that seems to have abandoned His people.

Elisha, born in 1951, has been a physician in general practice since 1975. Writing, his first love, is relegated to the end of the day. He writes: "When the patients have been seen, dinner eaten, the children bedded, reports written and journals read, it is that tiny scrag-end of night during which – to the accompaniment of burning eyes and aching back… – I allow myself to write."

The Miami production of "Two" is directed by theatre graduate student Paul Wilson. Tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for senior citizens, students and youth.
