University Senate adopts report on Western College, academic calendar

University Senate Monday, Dec. 4, approved the minutes of the Nov. 20 meeting, a senate resolution endorsing a new academic calendar, and senate resolutions adopting the report of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on the Establishment of an Honors College and a New Interdisciplinary Studies Program.

A full version of the calendar can be found online, and the Senate Ad Hoc Committee Report on the Establishment of an Honors College and A New Interdisciplinary Studies Program is also available online.

Copies of the senate resolutions also are available from the office of the university secretary, 205 Roudebush Hall, 9-3610.

In other news:

Jim Haley, associate vice president of facilities, and Robin Parker, university general counsel, reported on legislation pertaining to smoking policies.
Senate approved a bachelor of arts degree in classical languages, classics department.
Senate discussed increases in health insurance premiums to take effect in January 2007.

The next Senate meeting will be Jan. 22 in 111 Harrison Hall, Oxford campus.

*Twenty-five members of Faculty Assembly can challenge the resolutions by filing a petition with the secretary of the university during the 10 class days after publication in this online issue of The Miami Report. Absent a challenge by Faculty Assembly, these policies will be forwarded to the president and the board of trustees for consideration.
