Ceramics students donate bowls for hunger project
Students in Dennis Tobin’s ceramics class are donating homemade soup bowls to the Empty Bowls Project, an international effort to fight hunger. The organization will hold a benefit luncheon at noon Saturday, Nov. 2, at Oxford United Methodist Church, 14 N. Poplar.
The $10 luncheon includes soup, bread, beverages and a soup bowl to take home as a reminder of the event.
Volunteers from Oxford Friends Meeting and the Oxford United Methodist Church will donate homemade soup, with a vegetarian choice available.
Children under 12 will receive free soup mugs donated by customers of "You’re Fired," which is offering a discounted price of $10 through Oct. 27 for anyone who wishes to paint and donate a soup mug to the project.
All proceeds will be donated to Oxford Talawanda Community Services programs that assist low-income families in the area.
Sponsors of the event include the Oxford Friends Meeting, the Oxford United Methodist Church, Alpha Xi Delta sorority, Miami ceramics students and Candace Crist, owner of "You’re Fired." Wal-Mart and The Knolls of Oxford made additional contributions.
For more information, call Candace Crist at 523-2734 or Camilla Flintermann at 524-7426.
