Christianity in 18th century America topic of Puff Lecture |

Catherine A. Brekus will give the annual Puff Lecture at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in 204 Harrison Hall. Brekus will speak on "Sarah Osborn’s World: Popular Christianity in 18th Century America." Brekus is assistant professor of the history of Christianity in the Divinity School and department of history at the University of Chicago. She is an American religious historian whose research focuses on the colonial, early national and antebellum periods. She specializes in the history of women and religion and is the author of Strangers and Pilgrims: Female Preaching in America, 1740-1845. Sarah Osborn, 1714-1796, is the subject of her current research. Miami’s department of comparative religion sponsors Brekus’ talk. It is free and open to the public. |
