‘Once on This Island’ opens Nov. 15 |

The department of theatre production "Once on This Island" opens at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in Gates-Abegglen Theatre. Additional performances of the musical, by the Tony Award-winning team Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, are at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 16-18, and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18-19. The play is the second annual John D. Yeck MainStage production, made possible by a gift of $1 million from the estate of Dayton businessman Yeck (Miami ’34). It’s a story of personal love and loss as well as a story of larger issues including race, class and difference in the context of Caribbean post-colonialism. The production is directed by Paul Jackson (theatre). Tickets, $7.50 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens, are available at the Miami box office located in the Shriver Center, 9-3200. |
