Volcanoes in Azores topic of Limper Lecture

Elizabeth Widom (geology) will discuss "Volcanism in the Azores: Causes and Consequences" at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in 115 Shideler Hall.

Widom, who specializes in isotope geochemistry, spent the past several summers investigating the origins of magmas in the Azores and Canary Islands.

Topics will include the geologic setting, the cause of volcanism and volcanism hazards in the Azores, an archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

A question and answer session will follow the 45-minute, illustrated presentation.
The talk is free and open to the public.

Refreshments will be provided and the Limper Geology Museum will be open from 9-11:30 a.m. For more information, call 9-3220.
