Van Vliet receives Fulbright grant

Louise Van Vliet ( communication) has been awarded a Fulbright grant to lecture in speech/language pathology at Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovak Republic.

Van Vliet will lecture in the department of logopedics from February to May, teaching courses in language disorders resulting from brain damage, motor speech disorders and alternative/augmentative means of communication. The assignment will also include providing workshops for practicing clinicians developing alternative means of communication for nonverbal children and seminars on rehabilitation of swallowing disorders.

Van Vliet joined Miami’s faculty in 1977 after receiving bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from Ohio State University.

A fellow of Miami’s Scripps Gerontology Center, Van Vliet is one of approximately 2,000 U.S. grantees who will travel abroad for the 1999/2000 academic year through the Fulbright Program.
