Proceedings from an interdisciplinary international symposium held in 1998 at Miami that focused on the interrelationship between Africa and Italy have been published. Africa Italia: Due continenti si avvicinano was edited by Sante Matteo (French and Italian) and Stefano Belluci (former graduate student). It includes original works plus 11 articles from papers presented at the symposium, which featured international speakers on the past, present and future historical, anthropological and cultural relations between Italy and Africa. Other Miamians who contributed articles include Larry Mayer (geology), Peter Pedroni (French and Italian) and graduate student Maria Silvia Riccio. Silvia Carlorosi, master’s student, helped translate. An English version of the book, African Italy, will have more articles and is due out by early summer. |
