Composer of millennial work to visit |

Bright Sheng will be composer-in-residence at Miami Nov. 4-8. While here he will meet with students and faculty, perform some of his work and prepare to compose a commissioned work supported by the President’s Academic Enrichment Award. The department of music received the award for the proposal "Music at Miami for the Millennium: Harmonizing Excellence, Hearing Diversity." A key component is the commissioning of two new works by composers of international renown. The works will later premiere at Miami. Sheng’s compositions, which combine influences of Asian folk music and Western musical traditions, have earned him critical praise as one of the most sig- His music will be performed by Miami faculty in a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, in Souers Recital Hall, Center for Performing Arts. Performers include Sandra Seefeld, flute, the Oxford String Quartet and Sheng as pianist. The recital is open to the public. |
