Composer Daron Hagen to visit |

Daron Hagen will visit the Miami campus Oct. 6-7 as the Sigma Chi–William P. Huffman Foundation composer-in-residence. As part of the residency, Hagen’s music will be performed 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Hall Auditorium. Featured will be the wind ensemble, Gary Speck, director, and the symphony orchestra, José-Luis Novo, conductor. Soloists will be music faculty cellist Steven Shumway and mezzo-soprano Mari Opatz-Muni. At 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, Hagen will speak on "Writing Opera and Vocal Music," assisted by soprano Alison Acord, music. The lecture will be in Souers Recital Hall, Center for Performing Arts. A resident of New York who composes full time, Hagen’s catalogue of works includes four operas, three symphonies, four tone poems, two ballets, numerous concerti and five large-scale works for orchestra and voice, as well as chamber pieces and a dozen choral works. |
