Power down to save energy during the break

Dear Miami Staff and Faculty,

As you get ready to leave for the holiday break, please remember to take these simple steps to save energy while the university is closed:


  • Set the thermostat in your office to 60 degrees

  • Unplug all electrical devices, including phone chargers, and turn off power strips

  • Shut off copying machines and other office equipment

  • Shut off and unplug computers after backing up your data

  • Turn off printers that will not be in use

  • Turn off the lights in offices and hallways

Each of these small steps, when multiplied by nearly 4,000 employees, will lead to a very significant savings in energy costs. We appreciate your help.

When you return from break, you may need to allow some time for your computer to update, due to security patches that are automatically applied upon powering up.
