Miami professor author of Composing Other Spaces

Composing Other Spaces edited by Miami professor John Tassoni.
John Tassoni, professor of English and director of college composition at Miami University Middletown, is co-editor of Composing Other Spaces, published in October by Hampton Press. Tassoni's co-editor is Douglas Reichert Powell, English professor and coordinator of professional writing at Columbia College Chicago.

Composing Other Spaces includes essays by writers and teachers of writing from across America discussing composition theory and practice. Essays pay particular attention to places and spaces and how they shape or constrain conflicts, challenges and opportunities. Contributors work at institutions ranging from regional universities to open-admissions branch campuses to "flagship" public schools. The authors work in traditional classrooms and writing studios, dormitories, "smart" classrooms, country diners, cemeteries, creek banks and stairwells. And they examine issues of race, class, gender and disability, among other topics.

Tassoni has taught at Miami since 1994. He also is author of Sharing Pedagogies: Students and Teachers Write About Dialogic Practices and Blundering for a Change: Errors and Expectations in Critical Pedagogy, among other books.
