The Roger and Joyce Howe Center for Writing Excellence welcomes Wendy Hesford, associate professor of English at Ohio State University, who will conduct a workshop from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in multipurpose room C, Shriver Center.
Her workshop will focus on constructing writing assignments that invite students to use one text-a conceptually challenging text-as a critical lens through which to "read" and write about another text. The workshop will offer pedagogical strategies so that teachers can enable students to consider the usefulness or limitations of the critical lens in its application and to develop well-organized analytical arguments.
Particular attention will be given to texts that challenge students and teachers to confront complex moral and ethical issues raised by global human rights and humanitarian interventions. The workshop is co-sponsored by the Center for American and World Cultures, Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching and the English department. Lunch is provided. Contact allenm12@muohio.edu to make reservations.
