Dilek receives Gondwana Research Best Paper Award

Yildirim Dilek, professor of geology, has been presented the Gondwana Research Best Paper Award "Suprasubduction zone ophiolite formation along the periphery of Mesozoic Gondwana" published in Gondwana Research jointly with Harald Furnes and Minella Shallo. The award is given by the International Association for Gondwana Research (IAGR), a global scientific society. Gondwana Research is the official journal of IAGR published by Elsevier.

The paper was selected for the award after evaluation of the scientific merit of all the papers published in Gondwana Research during 2007. Dilek's paper, with co-authors Furnes of the University of Bergen, Norway and Shallo of the Polytechnic University of Tirana, Albania, appears in Volume 11, Issue 4, June 2007, pages 453-475. The award was presented Nov. 2 in Seoul, South Korea.

The award citation recognizes the authors' comprehensive research on the structure and geochemistry of the eastern Mediterranean ophiolites, which clearly define the mid-ocean ridge to suprasubduction zone petrogenetic evolution of magmas along the margin of the Mesozoic Gondwana.
