| Students created and donated bowls for local charity event. |
Students in the ceramics class of Dennis Tobin, associate professor of art, designed and produced nearly 400 bowls for "Oxford Empty Bowls," a benefit soup luncheon, to be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in the fellowship hall of the Oxford United Methodist Church.
Proceeds will be donated to the Oxford Community Choice Pantry. Guests choose from among bowls - created and donated by local artisans - to fill with soup at the luncheon. Bowls may then be kept by the guest.
Cost for the luncheon is $10 for adults, and children 10 and under may choose and fill a bowl for free. A choice of soup, homemade bread, desserts and beverages donated by local businesses and area churches will be served.
Empty Bowls was created in 1990 by a Michigan art teacher as a creative way for students to support a local food drive. Since then Empty Bowls has grown into an international event, raising millions of dollars worldwide toward hunger relief.
Oxford Empty Bowls is made possible by help from many groups in the Oxford community and at Miami.
