The department of theatre opens its season with the production of "Ohio State Murders" by Adrienne Kennedy at 8 p.m. Oct. 8, 9, 10, 11 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 in Gates-Abegglen Theatre.

Directed by Paul K. Bryant-Jackson (theatre), the story is a shocking portrayal of the struggle of a young woman - now a noted African-American playwright - in the racially charged America of the late 1940s and early 1950s, as told through flashbacks upon her return to her alma mater. The lead role of Suzanne will be played by two actors: Tanisha Charles, a senior English major, and Rhonda Gilliam-Smith (visiting assistant professor, educational leadership), a professional storyteller who has worked in the greater Cincinnati area under the stage name "Pied Piperess" for more than ten years.

In conjunction with the play, a panel discussion "Reflecting on the Art of Adrienne Kennedy" will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in Studio 88, Center for Performing Arts. Bryant-Jackson will act as moderator, with guest panelists Lesley Ferris, professor of theatre, Ohio State University; Caroline Jackson Smith, associate professor of theatre and dance and African American studies at Oberlin College; and Cliff NcNish, director of diversity and outreach in the School of Fine Arts at Miami. The panel is free and open to the public.

Tickets to the show are $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for Miami students and youth under 18 and are available at the box office by calling 529-3200 or online at www.tickets.muohio.edu>www.tickets.muohio.edu.
