Talks and a film series in September at the Miami University Art Museum complement the exhibition, "Myaamiaki iisi meehtohseeniwiciki, How the Miami People Live."
Joshua Sutterfield, Miami Tribe cultural resource officer, will speak at noon Tuesday, Sept. 23, providing an overview of what cultural resources are and why they are important to preserve.
Daryl Baldwin, director of the Myaamia Project, will speak about the project at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25. Baldwin will discuss "Myaamia: Beliefs and Culture, Evolving Concepts."
At 7 p.m. Sept. 25, the Sandy Osawa Film series begins with a showing of "Maria Tallchief." Maria and her sister Marjorie came from the Osage Nation in Oklahoma and trained as pianists and dancers. Maria became America's first home-grown prima ballerina and helped spark the founding of the New York City Ballet. The documentary looks at her life through interviews and rare dance footage.
The film will be shown again at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. All events are at the art museum and are free and open to the public. For more information, call 529-2232.
