Tadashi Koizumi, who received a Miami MFA (masters in fine arts) in metals in May, received the Emerging Craftsman Award for his body of work (for a sample, go to: www.users.muohio.edu/koizumt). Other Miami artists featured: current Miami MFA candidates Josh Foy, ceramics, and Geoff Riggle and Lisa M. Wilson, metals; Sandra Gross, Miami '91, glass, and Stephen Wolochowicz, MFA '05, ceramics; and BFA alumnae Lisa Johnson '04 and Christina Brandewie '80, both metals. More than 325 entries from 140 artists were submitted; 130 works in glass, metal, fiber, clay, wood and mixed media by nearly 90 artists were selected and are on display at the Ohio Craft Museum in Columbus through June 22. Ewing's award winning piece, "Dinner Ring for a Last Supper II" is part of a series of small objects based on the weaponry of Leonardo da Vinci. "This one piece was enough to make the trip worthwhile," said juror Brion Clinkingbeard, deputy director and chief curator of the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft. "It stands alongside the other works in this show as representing the 'best of' traditions of this powerhouse organization." The exhibition moves to the Springfield Museum of Art June 28 to Aug. 20 and select pieces will be displayed Sept. 5 through Oct. 26 at the French Art Colony in Gallipolis. The Ohio Craft Museum is located at 1656 W. 5th Ave. in Columbus. Parking and admission are free. To view the exhibition online, go to: www.ohiocraft.org. |
