Planned power outage May 13

Physical facilities has scheduled an annual test of the Oxford campus emergency back up generators beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, and ending at 1 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14. This test involves a major electrical shut down affecting nearly all buildings.

Employees should turn off and unplug all computers, monitors, printers, switches/hubs and even UPS (battery back-up) equipment to prevent damage to the equipment.

Employees will not be able to access network services (Internet access, e-mail, myMiami, Banner, etc.) and wireless services in campus buildings without power. All services should be available from off-campus throughout the scheduled power outage.

IT services will begin shutting down network services to individual buildings at 6 p.m. on May 13. The order in which buildings are shut down is determined by physical facilities' test plans. Select buildings will not be shut down as part of this test and will maintain both electrical and network connectivity. Contact PFD with any questions about your building.

Network and wireless service should be restored by 8 a.m. on May 14. However, if you have a critical need for network communications on Wednesday, May 14, notify the IT services support desk as soon as possible. That will allow IT services to respond in the event that the testing and restore are not completed as anticipated.
