Miami University will award 3,245 degrees at its 169th annual spring commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in Yager Stadium. President David Hodge will preside.
Robin Roberts, anchor of ABC News' "Good Morning America," will be the featured speaker. She will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree.
Roberts joined Good Morning America's (GMA) anchor team in 2005 and reports on a wide array of topics and issues. Since 1995, Roberts covered numerous special events for GMA ranging from the then-impending war with Iraq to the homecoming of soldiers aboard the USS Roosevelt. She reported on the Golden Jubilee at Buckingham Palace and the 25th anniversary of the papacy of Pope John Paul II in Vatican City. Roberts has worked in broadcasting for more than 20 years including assignments on "Good Morning America Sunday" and "Prime Time."
Music will be provided by the Miami University Symphony Band, Gary A. Speck, professor of music, conducting. Singing of the national anthem will be led by Grace Kim, a master's degree student in music performance, and the alma mater will be led by Christine Ledden, a senior music performance major.
Degrees to be awarded include six certificates, 181 associate's, 2,875 bachelor's, 169 master's and 14 doctor of philosophy.
Students who fulfill graduation requirements in the summer may elect to walk through the May ceremony. A separate ceremony will be held in August for master's and doctoral degree recipients.
Recognition ceremonies for each college and school, at which names of undergraduates will be read and they will receive their diploma covers, will be held Saturday and Sunday. Details are online at www.muohio.edu/commencement.
