James J. Sheehan, associate professor of teacher education at Miami University, died May 4 at his home after a long illness.
Sheehan, 42, was also a Senior Fulbright Scholar. He came to Miami in 2003.
His research interests included early childhood social studies, diplomacy, and history of education.
Born February 14, 1966 in Pittsburgh, Pa., he obtained his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from Ohio University. He taught at Ohio University, University of North Dakota, Cleveland State University and Miami University.
He is survived by his wife, Olivia, and sons Ryan and Matthew.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Christ the King University Parish, 75 Stewart St. in Athens. Burial will follow in New Marshfield Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday evening.
