Breittholz receives top fraternity award

04/29/2008

Brian Breittholz received the NIC Award of Distinction in April.
Brian Breittholz, associate director of alumni relations at Miami, received the Award of Distinction from the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) in Washington, D.C., April 14.

The award recognizes individuals who make a difference for fraternities: advancing ideals of fraternity in their daily lives, committing to support the future of fraternities and ensuring that fraternities are living their mission and values.

Breittholz, an alumnus of Phi Kappa Tau and longtime volunteer to that organization as well as Beta Theta Pi, has spent his 20-year professional career advancing the fraternity community and the field of student development.

Breittholz served on national committees of Phi Kappa Tau and was adviser to chapters at Kent State and Miami. He was a member of the Associate of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) for 16 years, including service as vice president for publications and information services and as editor of Perspectives, AFA's member magazine.

He has been associated with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators for 15 years, is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa fraternity, Order of Omega and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Breittholz was adviser to Miami's Beta Theta Pi chapter in 1999 and has continued to support the group.

Breittholz joined Miami's staff in 1992 as director of Greek affairs.
"To Brian, fraternity is a way to live life," said Steve Hartman, Phi Tau chief executive officer. "To those who know him, Brian provides us with the consummate example of what the best of fraternity life offers."
