The All-Stars - featuring clarinets, cello, keyboard, electric guitar, bass and drums - is part rock band and part chamber group, mixing classical and pop genres. The concert is a collaboration with the department of music and part of the Cromer/Flory Artist-in-Residence program. • "Altar Boyz," 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, in Hall Auditorium. The production, spoofing a Christian boy-band, won the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical. • Capitol Steps, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Hall Auditorium. The group, described in the Washington Times as "the best musical satire on Washington ever seen," will perform parodies of political scandals old and new. • "James and the Giant Peach," performed by Sign Stage Theatre, based on the book by Roald Dahl, with a deaf theatre adaptation by William Morgan, 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at Bogan Elementary School. The production, sponsored by the Talawanda-Miami Partnership, features deaf and hearing actors performing together the tale of James and his adventure inside the biggest peach the world has ever seen. • Naturally 7, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Hall Auditorium. The group of seven men performs wide ranging musical sounds including guitar licks, brass and strings using only their voices. • Kevin Smith, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, in Millett Hall (contains adult content and language; not recommended for children). Smith, the independent filmmaker who's responsible for "Dogma," "Clerks" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," will perform stand-up comedy and offer a question and answer period, all funny and foul. • The Guarneri String Quartet, 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, in Hall Auditorium. The acclaimed quartet, appearing as part of its 45th and final tour, will perform music by Bartók, Dvořák and Mozart. A National Public Radio review said "... the Guarneri lends a peerless radiance to every note and phrase." • Peking Acrobats, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, in Millett Hall. The acrobats, from the People's Republic of China, include tumblers, contortionists, jugglers, cyclists and gymnasts, accompanied by musicians playing traditional Chinese instruments. Their Miami appearance is sponsored by the Center for American and World Cultures, Kona Bistro and the Talawanda Miami Partnership. • Cellist Efe Baltacigil performing with the Miami University Symphony Orchestra, Ricardo Averbach, conductor, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2009, in Hall Auditorium. Recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant and selected as a member of the European Concert Hall Association's Rising Stars program, Baltacigil has performed with Pinchas Zukerman and Yo-Yo Ma, in Carnegie Hall and at Lincoln Center. • An Evening with Garrison Keillor, a bicentennial event, 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in Millett Hall. Keillor shares anecdotes about growing up in the American Midwest, the aging process and "late-life fatherhood." With a dry sense of humor, he captivates audiences and delivers with class and wisdom. His appearance at Miami is sponsored by the Knolls of Oxford. • Afro-Cuban All Stars, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009, in Hall Auditorium. The group celebrates all things Latin - from '50s mambo and cha-cha-cha to the latest salsa straight from Cuba. The concert is sponsored by Miami's Center for American and World Cultures. • Composer Philip Glass performing etudes and other works for solo piano, a bicentennial event, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009, in Hall Auditorium. The evening offers an opportunity to experience the music of Glass in an intimate setting. Glass will introduce the program from the piano bench.
