Five Miami faculty have been awarded grants from the Philip and Elaina Hampton Fund for Faculty International Initiatives for projects begun in fall 2008.
Recipients are:
Cyril K. Daddieh (Black world studies/political science), $1,700 for a project in Ghana, "Contemporary Trans-Atlantic Linkages: A New Generation of African Americans in Ghana";
Yildirim Dilek (geology), $4,000 for a project in Chile, "Kinematics and Geochemical Evolution of Continuing Rifting and Oceanization in the Southern Patagonian Andes, Chile";
Daniel G. Prior (history), $1,040 for a project in Kazakhstan, "History of the Northern Kirghiz Chieftains, 1800-1935";
Patricia Reynaud (French & Italian), $2,000 for a project in India, "In the Footsteps of Alain Danielou in Banaras, India"; and
David Sholle (communication), $2,700 for a project in Costa Rica, "Good Coffee: A Documentary Film on the Production and Consumption of Coffee."
Hampton reading committee members for the spring 2008 competition were Christopher Wolfe (interdisciplinary studies); Roscoe Ward (engineering and applied science); Aimin Wang (educational psychology); Venelin Ganev (political science); and David Keitges, director, international education), chair.
