Timothy Webster and Maura Reilly were recognized at the 13th annual Rebecca Jeanne Andrew Memorial Award ceremony held April 14. The awards provide funds for primate research.

Webster, a senior anthropology and zoology major, received $5,150 to support "Insectivory and well digging of chimpanzees at Semliki, Uganda," a research project he will conduct in the Semliki Valley Wildlife Reserve from May to November 2008. His award was made in absentia since he is currently a Cambridge Junior Fellow in the department of biological anthropology at the University of Cambridge, England. Webster's sister Jessica, a Miami sophomore, was on hand to accept the award.

Reilly, a junior zoology and environmental science major, received $1,300 for a research project on "Activity Budget and Play Behavior of Captive Apes: A Comparative Study" that she will conduct this summer as an intern at the Toledo Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

The awards were presented by Melanie and Jeff Andrew, who established them in memory of their daughter, Rebecca, who died Nov. 18, 1995, in the French Alps while attending Miami's Luxembourg campus. The awards are presented each year on or around her birthday, April 14. She was a junior majoring in anthropology who hoped to have a career in primatology. The award is designed to give other students an opportunity to study captive and wild primates in the United States and abroad.
