Howe Writing Center sponsors blog for students traveling to Chiapas, Mexico

03/13/2008

The 13 Miami University students heading to Chiapas, Mexico, this spring break to study with human rights workers will report on their trip by using a blog sponsored by the Roger and Joyce Howe Center for Writing Excellence. Miami students, faculty and staff can interact with the travelers via www.muohio.edu/chiapas.

Miami's spring break is March 15-23.

The trip is organized by the Miami University Students for Peace and Justice. While in Chiapas, the students will meet with government leaders, laborers and farmers, indigenous organizations, and people who are working for human rights in the region. The students will be headquartered in San Cristóbal de las Casas, located near the southern tip of Mexico.

"The blog is part of the Howe Center's effort to raise awareness of the vital role that writing plays in a Miami education," said Paul Anderson, director of the Howe Center. "It illustrates the way that writing contributes to learning outside the classroom as well as inside."
