News anchor Robin Roberts to speak at Miami commencement

02/29/2008

Robin Roberts
Robin Roberts, co-anchor of ABC News' "Good Morning America" (GMA), will speak to graduates and their families at Miami's spring commencement to be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, in Yager Stadium. No tickets are required.

Joining GMA's anchor team in 2005, Roberts reports on a wide array of topics and issues. Since 1995, Roberts covered numerous special events for GMA ranging from the then-impending war with Iraq to the homecoming of soldiers aboard the USS Roosevelt. She reported on the Golden Jubilee at Buckingham Palace and the 25th anniversary of the papacy of Pope John Paul II in Vatican City.

Most recently, Roberts reported from Des Moines, Iowa, where she anchored a Town Hall meeting with presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.). She also traveled to Africa with former President Clinton to bring viewers a firsthand look at the devastating AIDS crisis. Roberts is the only morning anchor to have broadcast live from inside a Navy submarine.

In August of 2005, Roberts reported live amid the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina to New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, a part of the country she has called home for most of her life. She launched GMA Gets It Done, a yearlong initiative to help her hometown of Pass Christian, Miss., recover.

Roberts has worked in broadcasting for more than 20 years including assignments on "Good Morning America Sunday" and "Prime Time." From 1990-2005, she was also an ESPN commentator. She hosted "SportsCenter," contributed to "NFL PrimeTime" and provided reports from the field. She also provided play-by-play commentary and hosting of the network's WNBA coverage.

Divisional recognition ceremonies also will be held the weekend of May 10. Details will be announced at a later date.
