Mass communication graduate student Justine Stokes received an Honorable Mention Award at the 2007 Wonder Women Short Film Competition Nov. 29 in New York City for her directorial film debut, "Affinity."
The short film was produced in June 2007 by students from both the mass communication and theatre departments, under the guidance of David Sholle (communication) and Andy Marko, a producer in the communication department. The film had its first official screening at the Brite Lite Indie Pop and Film Test presented by CityBeat in Kentucky at the end of July.
"Affinity" was written by recent theatre graduate Luis Fernando Midence, who also edited and starred in the movie with senior Courtney Maistros and recent graduate Christopher Hodge also from the theatre department. From mass communication, senior Dan Battistone acted as first-time director of photography with the help of recent master's graduate Janie Henderson as first assistant director and graduate student Pedro Segovia as sound recorder.
"Affinity" recently participated in the MyEmmy MySpace Broadband Award competition and is being screened at the "Miami not Florida" show at Media Bridges in Cincinnati, which began Jan. 25.
