A committee assisting with the selection of a spring commencement speaker is asking across the campuses for suggestions of potential speakers.
The 15-member committee of faculty, students and staff was appointed by President David Hodge to provide him with a short list of recommended names to consider as speakers for the May 10, 2008, main commencement ceremony. When Hodge arrived as president he created the advisory committee to seek broader, university-wide input, especially from students, to ensure the choice of the graduation speaker is "owned by the university."
"Commencement first and foremost is about the students, and so we should have a speaker whose words will resonate with the graduating seniors and their families," said Hodge.
Suggestions of names of potential speakers should be sent to Richard Little, special assistant to the provost and chair of the committee, at littlerd@muohio.edu by Dec. 5. The committee hopes to recommend several names to President Hodge early in the spring semester.
