Cincinnati Immigrant Theatre to perform Dec. 3

The Cincinnati Immigrant Theatre will perform "Human Stories of Inhuman Treatment" at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in 212 MacMillan Hall. The event, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Bishop Debate Society and Student Activists for Language and Cultural Exchange (SALCE).

Formed by a group of young Latino immigrant actors, the theatre company works to present the experiences of immigrants from their own perspectives. They are led by Margaret Singer, a founder of Su Casa Hispanic Center in Cincinnati and currently the center's coordinator of community outreach; and by Barbara Gutting, a retired high-school theatre teacher from the Cincinnati area who wrote and directs the play.

The 20-minute play, "Human Stories of Inhuman Treatment," chronicles Latino immigrants' journeys to Cincinnati from their home countries. It is based on a book of the same name, which consists of the testimonies of 15 Latino immigrants.

The performance will be followed by a question and answer session with the actors about their roles and their personal experiences. A reception will follow.
