Miami accountancy among best in nation

11/12/2007

Miami University's undergraduate program in accountancy is ranked 11th in the Public Accounting Report's 26th Annual Survey of Accounting Professors (up from 12th last year). It ranked third among schools that do not have a doctoral program; only those at Brigham Young and Notre Dame were higher.

The program, in Miami's Farmer School of Business, ranked 8th among those offered by public universities; the only schools that ranked higher have doctoral programs in accounting.

"Miami owes its continued success in accounting education to faculty members and staff," said Marc Rubin, chair of accountancy. "They create a superb learning experience that balances broad-based learning along with the necessary technical skills. In addition, Miami and the Farmer School are able to attract very capable students who are motivated to succeed in the business world. We are also fortunate to have many alumni and friends in the profession that provide extraordinary resources and opportunities for our students and faculty members."

The school's master's in accountancy (MAcc) program remained in the nation's top 20, ranked 18th by Public Accounting Report (PAR). That program is fifth among universities without a doctoral program.

PAR is an independent newsletter of the accounting profession that surveys accounting professors, department heads and chairs nationwide and asks them to assess those accountancy programs they feel most consistently turn out students capable of someday attaining partner status.

"Our accounting programs play a critical role in the Farmer School's overall excellence," said Dean Roger L. Jenkins. "Whenever I have an audience of accounting students, I am always impressed with their maturity, seriousness of purpose, and skills."

Miami's accounting program has consistently ranked among the nation's top 20 programs in PAR's survey.
