Miami's Wind Ensemble conducted by Gary A. Speck, with guest conductor Michael Haithcock, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in Hall Auditorium.
Haithcock was named director of bands at the University of Michigan in 2001 after 23 years on the faculty of Baylor University. He guides Michigan's graduate band and wind ensemble conducting program and provides administrative leadership for all aspects of the university's historic band program. Haithcock has published numerous articles on conducting and wind literature and is a frequent guest for workshops, festivals and symposiums across the country.
The Miami Wind Ensemble performance will include "Wedding Dances" from "Bandana," an opera for voice and wind band by Daron Hagen. Haithcock was conductor of the world premiere of the opera, commissioned by the College Band Directors National Association.
Also on the program is Five Variants of "Dives and Lazarus" by Ralph Vaughan Williams and William Schuman's New England Triptych.
