International Young Researchers Conference Oct. 27-29

Miami University's Havighurst Center for Russian and Post Soviet Studies presents its fifth annual International Young Researchers Conference "Thinking in/after Utopia: East-European and Russian Philosophy Before and After the Collapse of Communism" Oct. 27-29.

Featured keynote speakers include:

• Vladimir Tismaneanu, University of Maryland, on “The End of Leninism and the Future of Liberal Values” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in 304 Harrison Hall;
• Mikhail Epstein, Emory University, on “The Platonic Drama of Russian Thought: Ideas Against Ideocracy” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in 111 Harrison Hall; and
• Catharine Nepomnyashchy, Columbia University, on “20th Century Russian Utopian and Dystopian Fiction as a Mode of Philosophical Discourse” at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, in 212 MacMillan Hall. Nepomnyashchy is the John Altman Humanities Scholar-in-Residence.
