Podcast debuts in office of career services

Miami University's office of career services has launched CareerChat, a series of career and job search-related audio programs available to download through the Internet.

Known as a “podcast,” CareerChat takes advantage of Internet technology that allows listeners to subscribe to and automatically download podcast episodes to their computers. The episodes can then be transferred to any MP3 player, such as Apple’s iPod (hence the term “podcast”) and listened to anytime, anywhere.

CareerChat follows an interview format, with guests offering information and advice to students engaged in the job search process. The first round of CareerChat features three episodes on subjects including interviewing, internships and working for the FBI.

“We’re very proud and excited to be able to offer Miami students the benefits of this groundbreaking technology,” says Rick Hearin, director of the office of career services. “There are an increasing number of universities creating podcasts to provide students with content such as lectures and campus news, but to the best of my knowledge, we’re the first career center in the nation to utilize this new form of communication.

“We’ll be adding more episodes as the year goes on,” says Hearin. “We’ve got some very engaging topics and guests planned for the future.”
