Brill Science Library and Instructional Materials Center, located on the west side of Hughes Hall, will hold an orientation for students and interested faculty and staff members 12:30-4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22.
Participants will explore several different stations devoted to Silk Road culture and products for trade, such as silk, gemstones, sweets and spices. Stations will also provide information about services available at the library, such as chat reference, OhioLINK and RefWorks. The final station will feature Silk Road-inspired food.
At the beginning of their journey, participants will be given a passport to have stamped at each station they visit. Students must be documented at six stations to be eligible for prizes and extra credit. Some of the prizes to be awarded include iPod Nanos, iTunes music cards and flash drives. Some of the stations will feature podcasts about aspects of the Silk Road, so students are encouraged to bring their iPod/mp3 players.
Other departments contributing to the event include the Miami University Art Museum, the Limper Geology Museum, the Ecology Research Center, the greenhouse, Wertz Art and Architecture Library and Amos Music Library.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 9-7205 or visit www.lib.muohio.edu/silkroad.
